On 26th February morning I had just opened my tablet to see what's the latest news. I could see India's fighter jets written and DG ISPR written. I just ignored it but then something struck and I looked again I was taken by surprise. I wondered whether I'm happy or surprised! It was both. The news read- the ISPR spokesperson had confirmed India's fighter jets had entered into Pakistan territory. How unprecedented? India retaliated in 2016 with a surgical strike by the Indian army but no one would have thought Air force could be used to avenge Pulwama martyrs. Pakistan would have been in a state of deep shock. Pakistan would not have expected this from India seeing India's poor track record of dealing with terrorism. It reflected India's strong resolve against terror. Before the Uri attack we were a nation which almost surrendered when it came to avenging terror attack across the line of control.
For the past 30 years that Pakistan has unleashed a proxy war against India the decision of 2016 surgical strike followed by 2019 air strike deep inside Pakistan territory were landmark in dealing with Pakistan sponsored terror. Earlier, after every terror attack we expected the international community to do something about Pakistan. We never had that strong resolve to retaliate against Pakistan sponsored terror ourselves. Remember, how poorly India handled the Hazratbal mosque siege during 1990's. The Indian army had a well thought strategy to cut the water supply, electricity and food supply but army was let down by then government, every thing was provided to them. The then government turned the victory to defeat. Army could not go ahead as planned. The result - large number of terror attacks followed in the coming years. India gave signal to the terror organisations operating in Pakistan occupied Kashmir that India is wary of taking any action against terrorism. It must have given a leverage both to Pakistan and it's terror groups. We also feared, retaliation may turn into escalation which may further result in a full blown war with Pakistan.
The Balakot air strikes proved it wrong. India's image as soft state was exposed after every terror attack & we expected America to do something about Pakistan. We never realised it is our war, why would America help when it has it's own interests in Pakistan. Pakistan is strategically located on the world map.
One think that has changed in the past one year is that India will now strongly retaliate against terror attacks, a remarkable shift from the past.
The only problem is the way opposition starts questioning the retaliatory action of our forces. They raised questions at Indian air force's Balakot strike saying, 'only trees were bombed'. Earlier, they called surgical strike as 'fargical' strike.
Politicians in India will never come on same page on issues related to security. Sometimes they say such things only to oppose PM Modi. In their opposition to everything that prime minister is doing they go too far to the extend of criticizing armed forces retaliatory actions against Pakistan sponsored terror. From calling Doklam as Dhokha-lam (as tweeted by Rahul Gandhi ) to callingthe former army chief 'sadak ka gunda' to calling surgical strike as 'fargical strike' the opposition has gone too far. Falsely claiming 'people are dying in Kashmir' again said by Rahul Gandhi after the abrogation of article 370. Pakistan was quick to pick his words & mentioned his words in the dossier submitted to United nations last year with sheer joy. These words belittle & humiliate the sacrifices of our forces. It is an insult to the sweat and blood of a soldier who not only lay down his life for the country but also sacrifices his normal family life.
Indian army can handle enemy across our borders but how to handle our very own citizens who are asking people to cut Assam from the rest of India during a CAA protest. Asking protesters to block railway tracks so that Indian army does not reach Assam. What kind of malicious thinking is this? Our soldiers die to protect the sovereignty of India, these people are demeaning the sacrifices of our armed forces. Remember, last year Maj. Doundiyal and Maj. Chitresh were martyred after the Pulwama attack, one could not even celebrate his first wedding anniversary and the other one was getting married in a few days. Such outrageous & break India words demean their sacrifices. The enemy within, whom we cannot see, who is faceless is more dangerous than the enemy across the line of control.
