How to overcome sadness & find happiness?

In this article I'll share with you how to divert mind from sad feelings and be happy with whatever you have.

In this universe nothing is stagnant, everything is evolving, flowing , growing- for instance a tree grows up from sapling after attaining it's height, it still shed leaves every year, flowers and bear fruits similar is the human mind. Our mind grows, think, evolve, generates thoughts on what we feel & feelings turn into words, we express. Sadness is a feeling, it's state of mind where unhappiness takes over all that is happy. Our thoughts have expressions of being sad, happy, love, humour, chirpeness etc. 

How always being sad affect us?

Before I come to how to control sad feelings & find happiness, we need to understand what sadness is. Sadness is a feeling but it can adversely affect our mind and body. It has affected me and aggravated my disease- Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA). It's not a good feeling- a feeling we should avoid. It can detach us from leading  a normal life and force us into depression and anxiety. We may lose confidence, become negative, unable to think beyond sadness. Sadness can engulf our health and it can deteriorate and give rise to disease, hypertension. 

We become what we think

We become what are thoughts are, if we are happy our body is able to generate good hormones which can affect our health, body and mind positively but if we our unhappy then our body secretes hormones which are not good for health. So, in a way we ourselves are the cause of our happiness or sadness. Yes, we don't have control over things happening in our lives or our surroundings but we do have control over our feelings and we become what our thoughts are.

When you keep on thinking about your past or the present situation you are in, which may have adversely affected you but when your mind is continuously thinking of it without a pause, you generate too much sad thoughts, the next morning you get up again, you keep on thinking all sad that is happening in your life, you just can't get out of it, you keep on thinking and thinking and thinking, you actually become habitual of sadness and now you can't think beyond it. This needs to be shed. It can generate a lot of hormones which are not good for health which can lead you to a disease. 
 I was too sad, continously sad, I was consumed by sadness then I suffered with an autoimmune disease called rheumatoid arthritis, which is extremely painful and engulfs your joints, making it difficult to do day today activities. 

How to overcome sad feelings & control them?

Our thoughts are always in our control. Thoughts generate feelings good or bad, happy or sad & feelings can always be controlled. What is required is a strong will power. As human beings our body and mind  are capable of doing anything and everything. SWAMI  VIVEKANANDA said we can do anythingand everything. We have all the capabilities to turn our thought process into something worthy, to turn the tide of our lives, our mind, our career everything we are capable of. We can control our sadness to be happy in whatever we have. Happiness generates positive energy which can culminate into something worthy and give you a new lease of life.

If a person has suffered a breakup or failure of any kind or anything that is not within his/her control- sometimes we don't create circumstances, the circumstances fall on us, we have niether created them nor choosen them. If these circumstances grip us in sadness, then they can create problemsfor our health. We need to break this. In short we need to break the sadness, come out of it, defeat it to breathe happiness in whatever we have at present.


Relax your mind! How? I learnt it during my naturopathy session. Just lie down with your eyes closed and just concentrate on your breathing. Shut your mind for a while, all your energy will be directed inwards. Shutting up your mind is necessary to generate a positive thought process. I started doing this for 10 minutes daily and after few days felt much better as positive thoughts started coming into my mind and I started feeling happy in whatever I had.

You can't run away from a sad situation in your life or something that is making you sad. You have to face it but don't be sad about it all the time, days, months and weeks. Otherwise it will start deteriorating your health. Sadness adversely affects your health, mind and body. A situation is there but not a happy one- you can be sad about it all the time or you can be happy what is there with you to make the future better and happy.

Future always lies in our present deeds. In our present lies our future. How are we thinking today will be the fruit of our future. If we have a strong mind and will power we can successfully learn to deal with every situation rather than being sad about it. Remember sadness consumes you while happiness push you towards better life. 

A happy mind has several options to think on, it has a positive approach, a better thought process. An enthusiastic and happy person has lots of ideas in his mind because he is happy and is able to generate good hormones and good hormones make you happy and a self satisfied happy person can think better and good hormones keep you healthier.  A healthy mind is a factory of great ideas and ideas turn into reality which leads you to being success in whatever you do be it career relationships or exam anything.

Pranayam and mediation are best & are necessary to keep the sadness away.  Learn them from a yoga practitioner properly only then they will give positive results. 

Keep yourself busy so that your mind doesn't wander, it doesn't think about what all sad has happened recently in your life. Read a book, watch tv or motivational videos of motivational speakers to rejuvenate yourself and get inspire to move ahead.

Talk to the family
To divert mind from sad feelings or sadness it is necessary to talk to someone close to you. 
Talking helps, it helps us to share our emotions, our feelings. How we are feeling about a certain situation and this could help since family is our support, it understands us better and can help us to overcome the pain we are going through. Talk to the family freely about the reason of your sadness. It will definitely help. Keeping feelings (specially sad ones) up to you doesn't let you to recover from your pain or reason of your sadness. When I kept my emotions of how sad my disease aggravated, it didn't let me heal but now I share how I'm feeling with my family so, I feel better now. So, talk and share to overcome.
