Never thought India would witness a republic day when a religious flag would be hoisted on the red fort - a place where since independence our prime ministers have unfurl the national flag. Rahul Gandhi is quiet on this.
The IMF has lauded the farm bill saying it would increase farmers income. These agricultural reforms have come into existence after 70 years of India's independence. The economists & agriculture sector always wanted these farm reforms.
During talks with the farmer leaders, the government has already conceded on electricity and stubble (parali) burning as the farmers demanded. It is further ready to make some more changes. On 29th it seemed like the protest will end but the opposition leaders have starting visiting the protest site proving protest has political backing. The opposition spun false narrative saying 'Adani Ambani will take your land'. Can the opposition tell us how? Is Narendra Modi a zamidaar from pre independence era that he will snatch farmers land and sell it to Adani and Ambani?
Fearing some people may not like new bills, should government stop drafting bills? Should government take every citizen's advice before drafting a bill? Government could not please each & every citizen and accommodate their demands while drafting bills. The government is fully aware what reforms are needed in the agriculture sector and what will benefit poor farmers. Did any of the Congress government in the past asked people what to add and what not to add while drafting any bill.
The demand for agricultural reforms was pending for long. These bills will benefit poor farmers. Reforms are necessary. Every political party is now jumping into these protests & providing support. Congress ruled for almost 50 years, they were unable to stop farmer suicides. They could not bring reforms for the farmers. Why didn't they went ahead with drafting farm laws for the benefit of the poor farmer?
On 26 January when nation should have bow down to the Galwan valley martyrs who were awarded gallantry awards a Mahavir Chakra to Col.Santosh Babu and veer chakra to some of his jawans, we saw disturbing scenes at the red fort.
Total anarchy prevailed on 26 january people brandishing swords, lathis, attacking policemen and trying to almost run down tractors on policemen. Is this what we call peaceful protest or a peaceful tractor march? At the start of these protests women protesters were seen shouting "marja Modi". So how is this a farmers protest?
Now with more and more politicians visiting the protest site, the protest has become political. The farmers may be having certain issues with the farm bills but more and more politicians visiting, the protest may loose credibility.
